backpacking for women: Smoky Mountains, NC

Cost: $675

Welcome the arrival of summer by celebrating the longest days of year. Exploring the mountains, epic views, and pristine waterways of Western North Carolina on this long weekend, on the eve of the solstice will be nothing short of a delight.

Enjoy hiking in the warming summer air and taking a dip in any one of the countless swimming holes along the way. What better way to bring in the summer than soaking in the sun among the beautiful Smoky Mountains? Hang the hammock over a peaceful stream in the company of a waterfall and take in the camaraderie and sisterhood on this camping retreat for women.

Partake in some “hydrotherapy”, enjoy the bonfire with new friends and explore the surrounding mountains. Make every minute of daylight count on this 3-day weekend of connection, relationship building and celebrating womanhood.

Trip Itinerary:

The terrain in the Smoky Mountains is challenging but incredibly rewarding. On this trip expect a 3-7 miles over varying terrain where you may be crossing streams and tackling steep ascents and descents. Some sections are strenuous but not impossible. Lean on your team to help one another of tough sections and obstacles and see how quickly the group may bond.

Day 1: 5 miles, 1900’ of elevation gain. It’s a hearty start to the trip but the view at lunch will be unforgettable. Continue on a remote, sun-drenched ridge to make camp at 5100’!

Day 2: 7 miles, 3500’ of elevation loss. Descend from mountain top to river bottom on one of the most remote trail sections in the eastern US. Experience other-worldly reindeer lichen, massive hemlock trees, and majestic waterways. Arrive at camp and experience a multi-tiered, epic cascade of a waterfall with plenty of places to swim and sun bathe.

Day 3: 3 miles, 1600’ of elevation gain. Enjoy waking up next to a pristine mountain stream which you will ford a few times before ascending the final challenge to the vehicles. This will be a steep finish to the trip but all the more reason to celebrate strength and community when everyone has made it to the top.

Typical hiking mileage varies from 3-8 miles on a backpacking trip and 2-5 miles for basecamp trips. We love being flexible and playing to the tune the group is feeling, which ensures these trips are always unique to the group.

Itinerary is subject to change based on weather and guide discretion.
