Perseid Meteor Shower on the Prairie
Let’s be honest, you’re not going to see the meteor shower in the city. This night-long adventure is taking us to native Illinois prairie, about two hours west where bison roam free and native Illinois prairie thrive as it did centuries ago. This is what Illinois is all about, except on this special evening.
With no obstructions or light pollution, we’ll have a clear shot into the heavens where the perseids meteor shower will dazzle the Midwest. Enjoy a picnic by starlight with good company and listen to the coyotes yelp while the Milky Way does its thing.
• Deploy: Late summer nights is what Chicago is all about. We’ll leave Osmium Coffee, 1117 W Belmont around 7:30 p.m. and drive into the setting sun.
• Embark: We’ll arrive around 10:00 p.m., in darkness. Guided by the light of our headlamps we’ll hike the prairie for the perfect spot for the show.
• Return: We don’t have to stay until the sun comes up but you can count on it being a late night. We’ll leave this one open ended and return when the group decides it’s time to turn in.
